Launching our EPC brand, BRICK

We’ve been gearing up ahead of looming proposed EPC legislation changes and have launched a new nationwide EPC brand, BRICK.

Info you probably already know about EPCs:

All rental properties must have an active Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) which is an assessment of a property's energy efficiency credentials.

When we manage a property through our Letting Agents, Ultralets, we make sure the property has an active EPC and log when it's set to expire so our customers can forget about it until we let then know it needs renewing (which is every 10 years).

But our customers for BRICK aren’t just Ultralets clients, they’re also other letting agents / estate agents clients and direct customers. Anyone who needs an EPC can use BRICK.

How are EPC legal requirement changes set to impact landlords?

Currently all rental properties legally need an EPC rating of between and A - E. However, there's talks of this legal requirement changing to:

→ Between A - C for all new tenancies from December 2025.

→ Between A - C for all existing tenancies from 2028.

To put that in perspective, 61.82% of our managed properties* through Ultralets could no longer be legally let. They would need to improve their EPC rating to at least a C.

Of course, the government could do a u-turn on this, but if it goes through, the demand to make improvements to rental properties is going to sky rocket. This change could have a catastrophic impact on landlords.

*Stat based on our Ultralets management portfolio as of 31/01/2023.

What are we doing in response?

We're not going to be relying on third party contractors to support our Ultralets landlords - they're going to be swamped and will inflate prices to reflect the demand.

Instead, we've taken matters into our own hands and have launched BRICK. We now have a fully-qualified team of EPC Assessors who are accredited with Elmhurst and ready to help our Ultralets landlords and other customers with their EPCs.

How can you book an EPC?

Head to our BRICK website where booking EPCs online is breeze. Alternatively, you can email us directly if you need to order multiple EPCs or give us a call on: 01482 235 034
